Economic Inclusion and Human Rights

PROGRAM GOAL: A state in which all Californians can fully provide for themselves and their families and fully participate in society.

The Foundation’s priorities for new grantmaking will be:

  • Justice and Public Safety: Promoting changes in policies and practices that can reduce the state’s rates of incarceration and recidivism and increase formerly incarcerated people’s participation in the workforce and civic life.
  • Immigrants' Rights and Immigrant Integration: Supporting efforts to improve the wages and working conditions of immigrants, with a special focus on the needs of California farmworkers.
  • Accountable Development: Supporting efforts to make economic development in San Francisco, Oakland, and surrounding communities accountable to local needs for affordable housing and jobs that provide a living wage.
